Maggie graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law and joined Johnston Barton Proctor & Rose LLP this September. She practices in the firm’s Litigation and Health Care practice groups. As a member of the Health Care practice group, Maggie is focused on the defense of physicians, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other specialized care institutions in cases alleging medical malpractice. Additionally, her health care practice includes matters concerning compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements and state licensure issues. Recently, Maggie was part of the team that drafted an Amici Curiae brief to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals requesting a rehearing of a case that impacted current Certificate of Need law in Alabama. The team’s efforts were successful in persuading the court to vacate its prior opinion, which could have had an enormous impact on the state’s Certificate of Need review process. Maggie also is involved in Johnston Barton’s Litigation practice group where she assists in general commercial litigation matters.
Outside of the office, Maggie is actively involved in the Birmingham Bar Association as a member of the executive committee for the Young Lawyers Section. Recently, Maggie was selected by B-Metro Magazine as Rising Star of the Bar based on her achievements and contributions in the legal profession and her community involvement. She is also an executive member of the Junior Board for Court Appointed Special Advocates (“CASA”). CASA volunteers assist the courts in ensuring the well-being of children in Alabama.
